The plate comprising a support having linear grooves in a rear surface is new. Pref. grooves have a depth up to one half the thickness of the support, and they are of uniform depth. Each groove may be adapted to guide a cutter. The grooves may comprise first and second rows of linear grooves crossing each other at right angles. The grooves of the first row have longer spacing between them than the grooves of the second row. There is an absorbent layer on a front surface of the support and it is divided into a chromatogram development zone and a preparatory concentrating zone. The adsorbent in the concentrating zone is less chromatographically active than in the development zone.
