PURPOSE:To improve the positioning tolerance of a bar code by projecting the laser light received from a bar code reader onto the bar code. CONSTITUTION:A piece of laser light 4 sent from a bar code reader 3 is made incident on a bar code 2 printed on an object 1 to be measured like a panel, etc., via a reflector 5. If the light 4 is made incident on the reflector 5 at an incident angle smaller a total reflection angle, the light 4 is separated into the surface reflected light (output light) 8a reflected on the surface of a glass 6 and the transmitted light 8b reflected by a reflecting plate 7. The light 8b is further separated into the output light 9a and the reflected transmitted light 9b. Thus a single piece of light 4 is separated into (n) pieces of output beams 8a, 9a... and made incident on the code 2. As a result, the bar code reading probability is multiplied by (n) and therefore the bar code positioning tolerance is multiplied by (n).
