COATING COMPOSITION OF PARTIALLY OXIDIZED NITROCELLULOSE AND MAGNETIC PIGMENT

A coating composition is disclosed which is comprised of partially oxidized nitrocellulose and a pigment. The composition may further contain a synthetic resin binder. The partially oxidized nitrocellulose has a nitrogen content of 8.0 to 12.5% and contains 2.0 to 100 mmol in total of carboxyl groups and/or metal salt thereof per 100 g of nitrocellulose. The use of the partially oxidized nitrocellulose provides better dispersion than conventional nitrocellulose and shortens the dispersion time. Furthermore, the quantity of nitrocellulose needed to obtain a desired dispersion is less than needed with conventional nitrocellulose. The use of partially oxidized nitrocellulose does not impare the adhesion of the coating composition to a substrate.
