<p>HUT045550 Harmful dimethyl-formamide content of effluents is converted to useful dimethylamine by (i) preparing a mixt. contg. at least three moles of water for every mole of dimethyl formamide or any cpd. which gives rise to one mole of DMF in the presence of an alkali; (ii) heating the mixt. to 90 deg.C min, and maintaining the previously set pH is at 10.5 throughout. Dimethyl amine formed is desorbed at or near the mixtures boiling pt. and sepd. as an aq. soln.</p>
