The invention relates to a sealing-off device between the ascending-pipe bend and the collecting main in a coking oven or a similar gas producer, the ascending-pipe bend (2) being connected via a laterally extending leg (2a) to the upper side of the ascending pipe, whereas it is arranged with a second, vertical leg (4) on the collecting main (3) and is sealed off from a connection piece (7) of the collecting main (3) by means of sealing elements (6) bearing on the outer-wall surface (8) of an apron (5), the lower end of the vertical leg (4) of the ascending-pipe bend (2) fitting into the connection piece (7) of the collecting main (3) and reaching, by the apron (5), into an immersion cup (9) formed at the upper end of the connection piece of the collection main (3). A secure sealing-off with a horizontal as well as a vertical expansion compensation is provided by the fact that the sealing elements (6) of a stuffing-box seal (10), which is resiliently fastened to the connection piece (7) with horizontal play, act against the outer-wall surface (8) of the apron (5), the annular housing (13) of which stuffing-box seal, receiving the sealing elements (6), being subdivided radially into a plurality of segments, e.g. three segments. <IMAGE>
