The piston machine is designed as a pump or engine. A sliding piston 6 and a pressure piston 7 are supported axially displaceably in tandem in a three-part guide bushing 4a, b, c of the cylinder block 2. In the embodiment as pump, the working chamber 9 is filled with hydraulic fluid by a primer pump, which fluid is compressed in the working stroke of the pressure piston 7. A high pressure seal 17 seals off the working chamber 9 on the pressure piston 7. On the side remote from the pressure, the seal is lubricated with low pressure fluid, which is introduced by the primer pump into a ring channel 21 of the guide bushing 4a, b, c below the high pressure seal 17. <IMAGE>
