1313422 Amylose HAYASHIBARA CO 15 April 1970 [15 April 1969] 18043/70 Heading C3U In a process for the production of low M.W. amylose by the hydrolysis of starch with α-1,6- glucosidase, starch slurry is liquefied at a temperature in the range of from 85‹ to 170‹ C. and the liquefied starch is rapidly cooled to a temperature in the range of from 50‹ to 60‹ C. and treated with an α-1,6-glucosidase in this temperature range to reduce the viscosity of the starch solution and to prevent retrogradation of amylose during subsequent hydrolysis of the starch with α-1,6-glucosidase. After treatment at a temperature within the indicated range, the resulting solution of reduced viscosity is cooled to a temperature of 40-50‹ C. at which the hydrolysis of the starch with α-1,6-glucosidase is completed. Additional enzyme may be added to the starch while at this temperature. Altogether, two or more α-1,6-glucosidases having different enzymatic actions and temperature affinities may be used. The starch may be liquefied by simple heating of the slurry to a temperature of 130-170‹ C. to a dextrose equivalent of 0À5-3 or by heating the slurry to a temperature of 85-100‹ C. in the presence of α-amylase. The final product after recovery and drying is typically a non-hygroscopic crystalline powder consisting of substantially pure amylose having a degree of polymerization of from 20 to 30. |
