PURPOSE:To permit control of a focal position and light propagation direction by arraying >=2 lens- or prism-shaped electrodes on a light guide, thereby forming a titled device. CONSTITUTION:For example, this optical integrated circuit device has an n-GaAs substrate 1, an n-AlxGa1-xAs clad layer 2, an n-GaAs waveguide 3, a lens-shaped Schottky electrode 4, and an n-type ohmic electrode 5. The refractive index of a depletion layer part increases and incident light focus thereto when the electrodes 6 and 7-9 are biased to form the depletion layer in the light guide 3 right under the Schottky electrode 4. The focal position of the incident light can be changed by changing the bias state of the electrodes 7, 8, 9. The control of the focal position of propagated light and the propagation direction thereof is thereby permitted. |
