1,220,995. Induction heating. AEG-ELOTHERM G.m.b.H. 7 March, 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 11280/68. Heading H5H. The surface 7 of shaft 1, part of the face of a flange 2, and the connecting fillet, is hardened by an inductor which comprises a pair of parallel conductors 3 extending on opposite sides of the shaft and a U-shaped connector 8, 9 which joins the parallel conductors, the bight portion 9 of the connector being further from the shaft than the fillet. The shaft is rotated during heating. Laminations may be provided on the connector to concentrate the heating. The legs 8 may make an acute, obtuse or right-angle connection with conductors 3. The legs 8 may be completely straight or have their tops inclined towards one another as shown. The vertical portions of the legs 8 may be turned through an angle of 45 degrees so that they concentrate heat at the fillet. The conductors of the inductor are hollow copper tubes through which coolant flows. |
