In a film-type evaporator provided with vertical heating tubes 2, the liquid to be evaporated enters the evaporator - casing through nozzle 4 and overflows bowl 7 and annular troughs 8, 9 before it is distributed by perforated plates 10, 11 onto the inner surfaces of the tubes 2. Plates 10, 11 are joined by a cylindrical wall 14 which has apertures 16 distributed over the periphery.
