<p>An exercise machine comprises a frame which supports a seat (1), handlebars (2) and a pair of pivotable levers (3) pivoted at 4, each of which carries a foot pedal (5) and means (8) which may be used to support an amount of weight and/or the lower end of a substantially vertically hand held rod (see Figure 4) in order to combine arm with leg movements in the motion of pedalling. Each of the levers (3) is linked to the other by a flexible belt (9) passing through a frictional guide system (11) so that when either pedal is pushed downward the other is caused to reciprocate in upward movement, imparting to the descending pedal a level of resistance determined by the amount of weight carried by the ascending pedal lever, amplified in its effect by the degree of deflection of the flexible belt through the frictional guide system (11). <IMAGE></p> |
