PURPOSE:To improve a UV cut rate and visible ray transmissivity by forming UV cut coating films alternately laminated with thin dielectric films having different refractive indices on both faces of a base material and forming the UV cut coating films on both faces to the layer structures symmetrical with each other. CONSTITUTION:The prescribed base material 1 is immersed in coating soln. contg. the raw materials for dielectrics such as org. metallic compds. to form the films of the coating solns. on both faces of the base material; thereafter the base material 1 is calcined then, the thin dielectric films 2 are formed on both faces of the base material. The UV cut coating films are symmetrically formed on both faces of the material 1 by repeating the lamination, formation and calcination of another coated films contg. the raw materials to form the thin dielectric films 3 having the refractive indices different from the refractive indices of these thin dielectric films on said thin dielectric films. The UV cut coating films are thereby formed on all the surfaces into and from which light enters and emerges. Degradation in the UV cut rate and visible ray transmissivity generated heretofore at the direct boundary face is thereby prevented.
