A process for calcining a denitrating catalyst, capable of producing a uniform catalyst having superior percentage denitration and mechanical properties by calcining a catalyst unit, preferably obtained by stacking plate catalysts in a frame body, in a hot air furnace uniformly irrespective of the location of the catalyst at any site in the furnace. The process of the invention comprises arranging denitrating catalyst units (3) on a reticulate belt (4) which moves continuously through a furnace; feeding fresh hot air so that the direction of the hot air passing through the denitrating catalyst units can be reversed relative to the units at least at the front part and the rear part of the belt; and removing the resulting catalyst units (3) from the belt, the rate of passage of hot air through the units being controlled so as to give a sulfate group content in the catalyst of 4 to 7% by weight.
