[Also in Division A4] A guard 12, 14 for the rotary disc blade 4 of a food slicing machine houses sharpening and 'honing stones 16 for the blade edge, and is secured to a slide rod 20 movable in a block 26 in a direction normal to the plane of the blade 4, and the block 26 is movable in a direction parallel to the blade plane relative to a fixed support 2. A leg 28 of the block 26 is received in a bore 30 of the support 2, compressing a spring 32. The end 38 of a locking screw (34) (Fig. 3, not shown) engages a slot 40 in the leg 28 to limit movement of the latter. Dowels 42 projecting from the support 2 through bores 44 in the block 26 are engageable with respective bores 46 in the slide rod 20 to locate the guard in the blade-sharpening position shown, or in an operative position in which the blade projects into a recess 48. To move the guard from one position to the other, the locking screw is released, allowing spring 32 to raise the block 26 until the operative dowel 42 is clear of its bore 46. The rod 20, with the guard is then moved axially to its other limit position, and the block 26 pushed in and locked, so that the other dowel 42 engages its bore 46.</p> |
