PURPOSE:To reduce the power required for driving a magnetic head by arranging the center of gravity of a magnetic head mounting mechanism in a plane including the revolving shaft of a magnetic disk and on a magnetic head driving shaft parallel with the plane of the magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:A shaft 18a of a stepping motor 18 is provided in a plane including the revolving shaft of a magnetic disk 2 and in parallel with the plane of the magnetic disk 2, and the center of gravity of a carriage 19 is arranged on the shaft 18a. An arm 13 of the carriage 19 is freely rotated by bend of a flat spring, and the floppy disk 2 is pressed to a magnetic head 3 by the pressing force generated by a spring 16. Rotation of the stepping motor 18 is converted to rectilinear motion by the coupling part between the shaft 18a and a carriage base 12 to move the carriage 19. Thus, the generated driving force in the radial direction of the disk 2 can be directly applied to the center of gravity of the carriage 19, and the driving force is reduced.
