PURPOSE:To obtain a display easy to see by erasing unnecessary time information to display only required time information with segment display elements on a display device where the time is displayed with a prescribed number of segment display elements. CONSTITUTION:This display device is so constituted that unnecessary time information is erased and only required time information is displayed with segment display elements. That is, each data related to the time is supplied to a data memory of a system controller, and contents of this data memory are converted to segment data and are set to a segment memory in the system controller. It is discriminated by the system controller whether zero suppression is necessary or not. In case of time display '0H00M04S', '0H' in the hour digit position and '0' in the 10min digit position are erased as unnecessary time information and '0M04S' is displayed as required time information. Thus, the time display is easy to see.
