PAIRS OF VALVE MEMBERS FOR SLIDING GATE VALVES FOR METALLURGICAL USE

The two valve members of a sliding gate valve for pouring metal melts are made of abrasion-proof material and material which is relatively subject to abrasion, at least on its sliding surface, respectively. In use, wear grooves or recesses are formed in the sliding surface of the valve member, which is subject to abrasion and these grooves are filled with a mixture of abraded particles and metal particles or droplets which form a lasting seal between the sliding surfaces of the two valve members. The valve members according to this invention provide an improved seal along the sliding surfaces of the valve over an extended period of time. As well, this invention provides a method of producing such a sealing arrangement between the valve members.
