PURPOSE:To improve the incorporating property of the title stator into an engine as well as the performance of the same, by a method wherein an clutch inner part is provided in the rotary shaft of a motor through an unidirectional clutch mechanism and a pinion shaft is engaged with the inside of the clutch inner part through a spline while the pinion shaft is moved by a moving body, operated in conjunction with a solenoid switch. CONSTITUTION:In a starter for an engine, an exciting coil 33 is not excited when a key switch is put OFF, only the force of a spring 38 is applied on a plunger 26a, a moving assembly 20 is positioned behind and the plunger 20a is abutted against a plate 36. In this condition, a fixed contact 13 and a movable contact 28 are opened and a pinion shaft 20 is positioned behind by another, spring 23. When the key switch is put ON, the exciting coil 33 is conducted, the plunger 26a is energized, the moving assembly 26 moves forward and the contact 28 is abutted against the contact 13. Accordingly, an armature coil 2 is conducted through a brush 5 and a commutator 4 whereby a motor is started.
