PURPOSE:To find a defect in connection at its nearly stage and to make a recovery speedily by checking cores prior to switching from a 1st connection cable to a 2nd connection cable, and then switching them instantaneously and confirming the end of the connection. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a cable 1C to be laid newly are connected to the connectors C4 and C'4 of switching means 4 and 4' as preparatory operation for operating a switching device. A light beam from an LD light source 13 is made incident on the primary-side end part of the new cable 1C and detected by a power meter 14' through a sensor C'2, and the wire numbers of respective cores of the new optical fiber cable 1C are checked. Switching signals are outputted to the switching means 4 and 4' to connect connectors C1 and C4, and C2 and C3 on the primary side and connectors C'1 and C'4, and C'2 and C'3 on the secondary side. A light signal is supplied from a main controller 22 and light signal is photodetected by a secondary-side detector 9 to measure transmission characteristics, which are compared with the characteristics of the existent optical fiber cable 1B. Consequently, the defect in connection is found at early stage and recovered speedily.
