LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To permit color display of excellent contrast by forming scanning electrodes on a filter layer and embedding light shielding layers between respective color filters which are picture elements. CONSTITUTION:The color filter layer 2 is provided on a transparent glass substrate 1 and the light shielding layer 3 is formed like a mesh in the spacings between the respective colors of the color filter layer 2. A smooth layer 4 consisting of a polyimide resin is provided on the color filter layer 2 and the light shielding layer 3 and a transparent conductive film is formed over the entire surface on the smooth layer 4. The ITO film is thereafter etched to provide the transparent scanning electrodes 5 and the film of ITO is formed on the 2nd substrate 7 and is etched to provide transparent signal electrodes 8. The smoothness of the surface is thereby improved and the uniform orientation of a liquid crystal is permitted. The high-grade display of high contrast is thus obtd.
