PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of data of a code representing run color and the boundary position of the run by referencing the group of the run before a run to be converted and that in a scanning line above the scanning line including said run to be converted. CONSTITUTION:A run detecting circuit 3 detects the run from a picture data inputted in the order of scanning lines, outputs the changing position of run (absolute) and the run color to a memory 4, a position coding method designating circuit 5 and a color forecasting circuit 6 respectively and outputs the run color to a coding circuit 7. The position coding method designating circuit 5 receives an input of the changing position to be coded, references the changing point position and the run color stored in the memory 4, selects the coding method of the changing point position by a prescribed method and outputs the selected position coding method to the coding circuit 7. The color forecasting circuit 6 receives the input of said run color and the changing point position (*) to be coded, references the changing point position and the run color stored in the memory 4, forecasts the run color in the prescribed color forecasting method, compares the forecast value of the color with the actual value, and outputs a signal representing whether or not they are identical to the circut 7. |
