PURPOSE:To improve product quality and production efficiency by judging the correlative relation between the moisture sticking to a metal to be worked and coefft. of friction and adjusting the surface humidity of the metal to be worked in accordance with the result thereof. CONSTITUTION:A roll slip detecting means 20, a moisture adjusting device 40 and a driving control means 30 are disposed to a rolling mill 12. A revolution sensor 23 is provided to the means 20 and a revolution sensor 21 connected to a work roll 13 of a rolling mill is disposed. A circuit 25 of the means 20 drives a humidity adjuster 42 or 46 by a switch 31 or 32 of the means 30 when a roll slip is generated by a fluctuation in rolling load, atm. humidity, etc., in the initial period of working or during the course of working. The humidifying means 41 or dehumidifying 45 is thereby operated to adjust the moisture on the surface of the metal 1 to be worked, by which the coefft. of friction is increased and the roll slip is prevented. The product quality and production efficiency are thus improved.
