PURPOSE:To simplify a circuit and to economize the titled equipment by providing a device changing a coding system on plural communication controllers in common, switching image information signal conversion at every scanning line, and thus processing by time division. CONSTITUTION:A transmission original is scanned by a scanner part 3, resulting image signals are inputted to an encoder 4 where they are compress-coded, and stored in a RAM 2. Thereafter the data is stored in a disk device 5, and transmitted via the communication control parts 121, 122 when the coding system is the same with that of the opposit terminal equipment. On the other hand, when the coding systems are different from each other, the data is transferred to a specified areas of the RAM 2 from the device 5 at every transmission image information of the control parts 121, 122 and data by one scanning line is alternately read out, elongated in a decoder 8, and outputted to an encoder 9 and a line memory 101 or 102. The encoder 9 selects the memories 101, 102 alternately by a selector 11 and while referring to the outputs of them, an image information from the decoder 8 is compressed. As a result, a need for providing an encoder/decoder at every communication port is eliminated, and the facsimile equipment is economized.
