PURPOSE:To measure moisture accurately, by a method wherein wood chips before being dumped into a digester are partially taken out to crush in a pulping process and moisture of the wood chips crushed is measured with an optical type moisture measuring device or the like. CONSTITUTION:Wood chips 2 are taken out from a silo 1 to be dumped into a digester 4. Here, a part of wood chips 2 are sampled to be crushed by a crushing means 6 and moisture thereof is measured with a reflection type optical type moisture measuring device 8. The wood chips 2 thus sampled are returned to the digester 4 through an air chuter 14. A signal of a measured moisture value is sent to a computing means 9 to calculate a required amount of chemical liquid, which amount M is fed into the digester reclaiming kiln 4 from a dumping device 12 to pulp. Thus, this method - measurement of moisture of wood chips by crushing - enables accurate measurement of moisture to assure operation on line with control and to guarantee quality.
