PURPOSE:To enable removal of burrs of workpiece is various shapes, by a method wherein an elevatable machining head having a rotary cutter is swingingly supported to a support member, and a resilient material axially energizing a motor is situated to enable a head to follow an uneven surface. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece W is placed on an y-axis table 3, and x-axis and y-axis tables 2 and 3 are moved to a given position by means of an air cylinder. A portal type device 4 and a machining head 5 are moved to a position situated facing the workpiece W, and with a motor 6 turned ON, a rotary cutter 7 is rotationally driven. Thereafter, a head 5 is moved downward with the aid of an air cylinder 12, a cutter 7 is forced into contact with the burrs of the workpiece W, and the workpiece W is moved to cut off the burrs. In this case, since the cutter 7 can swing within a range where the side wall of the motor 6 makes contact with the under surface 14b of a peripheral wall 14, if unevenness of the surface of the workpiece W is low, the cutter 7 is swung without control, e.g. NC, and follows the uneven surfaces of a reference surface W3 of the workpiece W with the aid of a guide roller 7a, and removes burrs without excessive cutoff.
