The invention comprises monoazo dyes which are difficulty soluble in water, of the formula <FORM:1110158/C4-C5/1> wherein A represents H, Cl, Br, C1 to C alkyl, alkoxy or alkylsulphonyl, or C2 to C5 carboalkoxy; Y represents a C1 to C5 unsubstituted or non-ionically substituted alkoxy; B represents -CO-, -COO- or -SO2-; R represents C1 to C5 unsubstituted or non-ionically substituted alkyl; Z is C2 to C4 alkylene; R1 represents an unsubstituted or non-ionically ring substituted aralkyl group, and R2 represents a C2 to C5 unsubstituted or non-ionically substituted alkanoyl group. They may be obtained by coupling the diazonium compound of an amine of the formula <FORM:1110158/C4-C5/2> with a coupling component of the formula <FORM:1110158/C4-C5/3> Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They are useful for dyeing hydrophobic organic textile fibres.ALSO:1 - [N - Benzyl - N - (b - acetoxyethyl)-amino] - 2 - methoxy- or -ethoxy - 5 - acetylaminobenzene is obtained by reacting 1-amino-2-methoxy-or -ethoxy-5-acetylaminobenzene with benzyl chloride, adding 1 equivalent of ethylene oxide to the product and then acetylating the 1 - [N - benzyl - N - (b - hydroxyethyl) - amino]-2 - methoxy- or -ethoxy - 5 - acetylaminobenzene. 1 - [N - Benzyl - N - (b - acetoxyethyl)-amino] - 2 - ethoxy - 5 - methylsulphonylaminobenzene is obtained in a similar manner to the above compounds starting with 1-amino-2-ethoxy -5-methylsulphonylaminobenzene. |
