PURPOSE:To increase the charge-discharge cycle performance of a battery by forming a negative electrode with a mixture of lithium and lithium rich alloy. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode consists of a mixture of lithium and lithium alloy which has a single electrode potential practically same as that of lithium. When the negative electrode in which lithium rich alloy (LixM alloy) is dispersed in lithium is discharged, the LixM alloy stands in a line on the surface of the negative electrode, or on the contact surface with electrolyte. When the negative electrode is charged, lithium ion (Li<+>) in the electrolyte is deposited on the LixM alloy, and at the same time, lithium in the LixM alloy is transferred to the rear lithium layer and the deposited lithium is alloyed with LixM alloy, and the following discharge and charge are conducted through the LixM alloy. No growth of lithium dendrite in charge is produced and reaction with electro lyte is also retarded. Therefore, the charge-discharge cycle performance of a battery is increased. |
