PURPOSE:To permit control of an oriented film in molecular order and to obtain the oriented film having good characteristic with good reproducibility by flocculating monomolecular films on a water surface to form lyotropic liquid crystal films, immersing a substrate into a liquid, then pulling up the substrate to transfer the liquid crystals onto the substrate surface, and heating the substrate, thereby forming the oriented film. CONSTITUTION:A partition plate 6 made of 'Teflon(R)' is placed on the water surface and is moved in the direction of an arrow A to flocculate the monomolecules 1 by which the lyotropic liquid crystal film 7 is formed. The substrate 8 made of quartz in thereafter immersed into the liquid perpendicularly to the liquid surface to stick the lyotropic liquid crystal film 7 onto the substrate surface and the substrate is pulled up. The above-mentioned operation is carried out 100 times to form multi-layered films 9 of the lyotropic liquid crystal. After the multi-layered films 9 are formed, the substrate 8 is dried to evaporate a nonaqueous solvent (benzene) to form the oriented film consisting of the multi- layered films 9. The control of the oriented film in molecular order is thereby permitted and the orientability of good reproducibility is obtd. |
