PURPOSE:To enable the practical operation of the title cleaner with high profitability by carrying out the automatic operation in the operational patterns following a combination of plural set air volumes based on the output of a gas sensor in a control circuit, and appropriately controlling the operation in accordance with the progress in the contamination of air. CONSTITUTION:The cleaner is automatically operated by the control circuit 16 based on the output of the gas sensor 12 for detecting the air contamination degree in a room in the operational patterns following a combination of plural set air volumes. Namely, plural set levels determined by adding a specified value to the set reference level are set in the control circuit 16. When the air contamination degree progress, the cleaner is operated in the operational pattern following the preset air volume whenever the output of the gas sensor 12 exceeds the set level. When the air contamination degree decreases, the operation is continued without changing the operational pattern in the predetermined pattern even when the output exceeds the set level except when the output exceeds the maximum set level, and the operation is stopped after a specified time.
