PURPOSE:To increase effective surface area for reaction of a filter medium and to improve cleaning capacity of the medium by allowing granular thermoplastic resin to carry MnO2 powder on the surface. CONSTITUTION:MnO2 powder is carried on thermoplastic resin powder by mixing MnO2 powder having <=10mum particle size with granular thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, etc., having 0.3-0.8mm particle size, and heating the mixture. The filter medium for producing clean water obtd. by this method has large effective surface area since no binder is used therein, so the filter medium has superior removing capacity for org. matters. Fe, Mn, etc., in water, and the cleaning capacity is improved.
