PURPOSE:To improve welding efficiency by coating a paint contg. a fine granular inorg. filler near the weld zone of a can and subjecting the metallic stock of the can to butt welding by a CO2 laser. CONSTITUTION:The paint is prepd. by molding the inorg. filler consisting of titanium oxide, etc., to the fine particle shape of <=3mum average grain size and incorporating such grains at >=10vol.% into a resin such as phenolic resin having high thermal decomposition resistance. The metallic stock such as steel sheet is subjected to painting and baking with such paint and thereafter, a blank for the can is formed. The ends of the blank after roll forming are butted to each other and are subjected to CO2 laser welding. Since the fine grains of the inorg. filler are incorporated into the coated film, the thermal decomposition temp. rises and the weld zone of the can quickly attains the high temp. state of good laser absorption efficiency and is thereby welded. The efficiency of the laser welding is thus improved. |
