PURPOSE:To define a new instruction format without restricting its instruction length by providing the titled system with a recognizing means to be activated when an instruction is especially defined is recognized. CONSTITUTION:When an instruction I especially defined with 4-word length is stored in instruction prefetching registers 10-13, a 4-word instruction decoding sequence executes a microinstruction for storing A stored in an instruction data register 40 at present in a work file 70 and executes a microinstruction for transferring respective most significant words of instruction registers 30-32 to an instruction data register 40 to store B in the register 40. When operation for transferring instructions from the registers 10-13 to the registers 30-32, operation for outputting a control signal to a control line 80 for an aligner 20 and operation for updating an instruction counter are executed by said microinstruction, instruction length=1 is added to the instruction counter.
