PURPOSE:To permit removal of not only the org. matter in sewage but nitrogen as well by circulating the sewage in a treatment tank between an aerobic part where oxygen is rich and an anaerobic part where oxygen is deficient. CONSTITUTION:The treatment tank 20 is provided in place of an aeration tank. The tank 20 is divided to the aerobic part 21 where oxygen is rich and the anaerobic part 22 where oxygen is deficient by a partition wall 24 which communicates the bottom of said parts. A cylindrical screen 25 immersed partly or fully in the sewage is disposed to the top end of the wall 24 so that the sewage 12 circulates between the aerobic part 21 and the anaerobic part 22. As a result, not only the org. matter in the sewage but nitrogen as well can be removed without allowing discharge of a carrier.
