The invention relates to work frames making it possible to obtain a layer of specified thickness and, by superimposing frames on top of one another, to obtain a layer of greater thickness or several layers of equal or different thickness and of different composition. The frames are made by mechanical assembly and by bonding together small bars held during use by a partial outer frame or by dowels inserted into perforations made in the small bars. The set of frames is supplemented by a reducing small bar and a smoothing rule. Amongst the most beneficial applications of the invention, mention may be made of the production of layers of precise thicknesses made from chocolate, sugar, or fruit paste confectionery.
