PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for antiviral agent, etc., industrially and advantageously, by treating a bacterium belonging to the genus Arthrobacter, etc., capable of producing ribose-1-phosphate, etc., an orotidine, etc., and an inorganic phosphate in an aqueous medium. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium belonging to the genus Arthrobacter, Bacillus, Cellulomonas, Brevibacterium, Corynebacterium, Escherichia, Nocardia, Planococcus, Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Xanthomonas, Serratia, Streptomyces or Erwinia, capable of producing ribose-1-phosphate from orotidine or orotidylic acid (salt) and an inorganic phosphoric acid (salt) is treated with orotidine or orotidylic acid (salt) and an inorganic phosphoric acid (salt) to give the aimed compound.
