PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a transfer electrostatic charger greatly and to prevent a defect in transfer from being caused by dividing the electrostatic charger into an electrostatic charger main body and a shield plate with a flexible member, positioning the tip of the flexible member outside the outer periphery of a cylindrical body at the time of attachment, and positioning it inside at the time of detachment. CONSTITUTION:The electrostatic charger for transfer is divided into the electrostatic charger main body 240 which is attachable to and detachable from a transfer drum 20 provided with a suction sheet 202 for supporting a transfer material and the shield plate 245 which is in the transfer drum 20 and has the flexible member. Then when the electrostatic charger main body 240 is mounted on the transfer drum 20, the tip of the flexible member 246 is positioned outside the outer periphery of the transfer drum 20 and when the main body 240 is demounted from the transfer drum 20, the tip of the flexible member 246 is positioned inside the transfer drum 20. Consequently, even if the suction sheet 202 is replaced during the demounting of the electrostatic charger main body 240, there is no problem, the flexible member 246 is not flawed, and the original function is never spoiled.
