The invention relates to a data logging device for milk collected in component volumes in a collecting tank of a transportation vehicle by means of a receiving system. For every component volume, a sample is collected and poured into a sample vessel 8. The sample vessels are permanently positioned in stands 9 arranged next to one another in a row. The sample vessels 8 are filled by a filling device 7 which can move along in two coordinates over the sample vessels 8. The data logging device obtains data on the volume from a volume meter in the milk receiving system and data on the position of a sample vessel 8 belonging to a particular volume from a position sensor. The position sensor comprises two reading heads 17, 24, 25 and can be moved, together with the filling device 7, in a compound slide carriage 15, 21, 22 in the two coordinates. While one reading head 17 is reading out the position of a vessel 8 in a row in each stand 9, the other reading head 24, 25 reads out a coded marking at one end of each stand 9 in each case. The data logging device correlates these codes read out with the associated value for the milk volume. In the laboratory, each vessel in the row can be clearly correlated with the data stored by the data logging device on the basis of the coded markings on the stands. <IMAGE>
