PURPOSE:To get out from slip condition by enabling selection between a full- time four wheel drive mode and a fully automatic four wheel drive mode thereby achieving a driving performance conforming to the drive conditions such as pavement conditions. CONSTITUTION:When a sleeve 44 in a changeover mechanism 40 is slided forward, a sun gear 31 in a center differential 30 is coupled with a first gear 51 for driving a front wheel through first and second spline members 41, 42 and separation of the sun gear 31, a carrier 34 and a ring gear 35 in the center differential 30 is made, thereby a full time four wheel drive mode where the center differential 30 functions is attained. When the sleeve 44 is slided rearward to couple second and third splines 42, 43, the center differential 30 is locked to provide two wheel drive. When a rear wheel 16 slips and the rotary speed thereof exceeds over that of a front wheel 20, a one-way clutch 60 transmits torque to an outer lace 62 side, thus providing a fully automatic four wheel drive mode.
