In order to maintain stability in the system ink-ribbon guide / thin ink-ribbon mask despite narrow-tolerance spacings for very small needle strokes, i.e. for high printing speeds, and also to guarantee easy input and output of the ink ribbon (5) by the operating personnel, it is proposed that the ink-ribbon mask (4) is set, by means of projections (15) under prestressing force, to a gap (13) in the region of the printing elements (9a), which gap is 0.01 to 0.05 mm greater than the thickness (14) of the ink ribbon, and that the projections (15) have curved contours (18) extending in the input and output direction (16, 17) of the ink ribbon (5). <IMAGE>
