PURPOSE:To obtain a measuring apparatus capable of simply measuring the perpendicularity of a container with good accuracy, by providing a mechanism for rotating the container while grasping the container in the vicinity of the mouth part thereof and a mechanism for measuring the verticality of the container while rotating the container. CONSTITUTION:A container 3 is placed on a conveyor belt 35 to be moved in the direction shown by an arrow A by a moving means 40. roller support rods 52, 52 are opened left and right to receive the container 3 and, when the flange 60 of the mouth part of the container 3 is grasped by rollers 49, 51, 51, and the container 3 is rotated by 90 deg. in the direction shown by an arrow B along with a rotary disc 47, a rotary gear 53 meshes with a drive gear 58. Next, an inspection apparatus 20 falls to the definite position of the upper end part of the mouth part of the container 3 and a motor 56 rotates the container 3 and the freely rotatable rollers 51, 51 through the gear 58 and a drive roller 49. At this time, since the upper part of the container 3 is supported at three points, the container 3 is accurately held to a vertical posture. In this state, the inspection apparatus 20 performs predetermined measurement and, at the same time, laser sensors 71, 72 measure the deflection widths of the side surface and bottom surface of the container 3 to output the same as the verticality of the container 3.
