PURPOSE:To listen to broadcast having a stereophonic sense at the time of a strong electric field, and also, to satisfactorily listen to the broadcast by improving S/N at the time of a weak electric field, by switching to a pseudo- stereo state or a monaural state in accordance with the intensity of a receiving electric field. CONSTITUTION:A pseudo-stereo circuit 13 inputs a monaural signal SM being an output of an AM tuner 12 and outputs pseudo-stereo signals SL', SR' of both L and R channels. A switching circuit 14 outputs the pseudo-stereo signals SL', SR' in case the intensity of a receiving electric field detected by a level detecting circuit 15 exceeds a prescribed threshold level ES, and outputs the monaural signal SM in case said intensity is below the level ES. In such a way, the broadcast having a stereophonic sense can be listened to at the time of a strong electric field, and at the time of a weak electric field, the broadcast can be listened to satisfactorily by improving the S/N.
