1,179,236. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. 11 April, 1968 [13 April, 1967], No. 16934/67. Heading F2E. A reaction type disc brake has a fixed actuator body 10, a directly operated pad 13 and an indirectly operated pad 15 supported by an axially slidable yoke 11 straddling the actuator body and operated by a reaction piston 12, the actuator body 10 being attached to a mounting bracket 22 on the opposite side of the disc 14 to the directly operated pad. In one embodiment, Fig. 2 (and Figs. 1, 3, not shown), the yoke 11 slides in grooves in the actuator body. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 4... 7 (not shown), the yoke slides in notches in the support bracket and is held against the wall of the notch by a spring (39), Fig. 7. The actuator body may have lugs extending radially over the disc and bolted to ears 26 on the mounting bracket as illustrated, e.g. in Fig. 2, or the bracket may have bushes (63) extending radially over the disc, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown). Manual actuation is provided by a cam 30 journalled in an extension 12 of the reaction piston acting on the reaction piston and thereby through an automatic adjuster (not shown) on the direct piston. |
