PURPOSE:To obtain a laser diode which can prevent an electrostatic breakdown from occurring during a handling process such as a manufacturing process, a mounting process or the like of the device by a method wherein a protective diode, a capacitor, a resistor and the like, to be used to absorb a surge current, are connected in parallel with the laser diode. CONSTITUTION:At a device structure where a laser diode 1 radiating a main laser beam 1a and a laser beam 1b for monitor use and a photodiode 2 receiving the laser beam 1b for monitor use to confirm the output of the main laser beam 1a are installed, electronic components such as a protective diode 10, a capacitor 11, a resistor and the line to be used to absorb a surge current are connected in parallel with the laser diode 1. By this setup, the surge current which flows to the laser diode can be absorbed by these electronic components; accordingly, it is possible to prevent an electrostatic breakdown of the laser diode from occurring during a handling process such as a manufacturing process, a mounting process or the like of the laser diode.
