HINGED VEHICLE WINDOW ASSEMBLY

A vehicle hinged window unit for installation entirely from the exterior includes a hinge attachable to the vehicle body and bonded directly to a pane without any structure extending into or through the pane. The pane is pref. of glass and the hinge is of metal attached with adhesive. The adhesive is pref. polyacrylate, vinyl acetate/phenol-formaldehyde or epoxy cement, partic. epoxy cement activatable by induction heating. The hinge pref. includes at least one hinge plate of resilient metal with a flexible part allowing pane movement between open and closed positions and secured to the pane front surface adjacent to the periphery. The hinge may have a clip for fitting over a flange in the vehicle body and including a detent to engage in a flange recess.
