PURPOSE:To improve optical connection loss in the use under condition of large temperature fluctuations and to improve the reliability of optical connection by providing a space reducing means which has a small coefficient of thermal expansion in the space between the internal surface of a ferrule and an optical fiber, and charging the remaining space with an adhesive. CONSTITUTION:A small-diameter part 4d is formed on the internal surface of the ferrule in one body as the means which reduces the space between the internal surface of the ferrule 4 and the exposed part of the optical fiber 21 to form the internal surface of the ferrule 4 into a double-stepped cylindrical surface. In this case, (d) is the diameter of the small-diameter part 4d. The small-diameter part 4d extends from the end wall 4a of the ferrule 4 to an intermediate position of the base end of the exposed part of the optical fiber 21. Thus, the internal surface of the ferrule 4 is formed into two steps to provide the small-diameter part 4d on the internal surface of the ferrule 4, so the amount of the charged adhesive 30 is reduced. Consequently, there is no large thermal contraction of the adhesive 30 and separations are hardly caused between the optical fiber 21 and adhesive 30, and adhesive 30 and internal surface of the ferrule 4, eliminating the unevenness of the end part of the optical fiber 21. |
