PURPOSE:To attain the collation of identity with high reliability by converting the feature points of a face into picture data and calculating the ratio between said picture data and numeric data read out of an information card where the face feature points are previously stored as the numeric data. CONSTITUTION:When an information card 14 is collated with the owner of the card 14, the face image of this owner is taken in by an input device 10 and at the same time the numeric data on the card 14 is read by a card reader 15. The face image taken in by the device 10 is converted into digital picture data (a) by an A/D converter 11 and stored successively in a memory of a data controller 12. Then the data (a) read out of the controller 12 is given to a collation processor 13. At the same time, plural numeric data (b) on the card 14 read by the reader 15 are supplied to the processor 13. The processor 13 calculates the ratio between both data (a) and (b) and then the absolute value of the difference between the calculated ratio and numeric value '1' to decide whether this absolute value is kept within a fixed allowable value or not. In such a way, the collation of identify is ensured with high reliability.
