PURPOSE:To convert a coprecipitate to a form generating no public nuisance and to achieve the effective utilization and economical effect of coal ash produced in large quantities as byproduct in a coal burning power plant, by using coal ash as the sedimentation separating agent of fine particles in a liquid. CONSTITUTION:Coal ash is used as a sedimentation separating agent of fine particles of a liquid, for example, a coal suspension or industrial waste sludge. By adding coal ash to a suspension in an amount of 1% or more, said coal ash shows effect equal to or more than that of a conventional sedimentation flocculant (aluminum sulfate or iron sulfate). Since coal ash hardly generates public nuisance, no problem is generated in the discarding of coal ash along with a coprecipitate and, further, since coal ash is generated in large quantities as a byproduct in a coal burning power plant, coal ash is inexpensive and there is a merit generating no problem even when the use amount thereof increases.
