<p>A power steering system comprises a steering wheel (1), a torque sensor (3), steering shafts (2a,2b,2c), universal joints (4a,4b), a rack shaft (6), a control unit (9), a transmission position sensor (10), and a switch (12). Batteries (11), a DC motor (13), a reduction gear mechanism (14,15) and an electro-magnetic clutch (16) are also included. In response to a torque applied to the steering wheel (1), the DC motor (13) provides auxiliary actuation force to the rack shaft via the electro-magnetic clutch (16). The clutch is engaged only when the transmission position is found to be first, reverse or neutral. Otherwise the assistance is cut off.</p> |
