PURPOSE:To produce a glass fiber having excellent strength and elasticity, by melt spinning a specific oxynitride glass. CONSTITUTION:A metal nitride such as Si3N4, AlN, is added to a metal oxide such as SiO2, CaO, MgO, SrO, Na2O, K2O, and the mixture is heated to 1,400-1,900 deg.C at heating rate of 10-80 deg.C/min under a nitrogen atmosphere to give an oxynitride glass, which is then fed to a crucible 1 and heated to 1,100-1,600 deg.C under a nitrogen atmosphere using a cylindrical carbon heating element heat-reserved in the circumference by a heat-insulating material to melt the glass and the melted glass is spun at spinning rate of 20-3,000m/min to provide the aimed glass having 5-150mum fiber size, 12,500-18,000kg/mm<2> modulus and 70-500kg/mm<2> tensile strength. |
