PURPOSE:To simplify an operation mistake, and to prevent a connection mistake by providing a mechanism for executing a data transfer use connection to a host computer, by a bar-code input mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A portable terminal 1 is usually detached from a host computer 5, and used as a terminal for using a bar-code input by a bar-code input mechanism 2 and an input from a keyboard. In case of transferring accumulated data to the host computer 5, a transfer adaptor 3 and a transfer use cable 4 are prepared in advance on the host computer 5 side. When the bar-code input mechanism 2 is inserted into the transfer adaptor 3 in order to execute a transfer to the host computer 5 from the portable terminal 1, and a transfer start is designated from the keyboard of the portable terminal 1, thereafter, the transfer between the portable terminal 1 and the host computer 5 is executed through the bar-code input mechanism 2 and the transfer adaptor 3.
